Morgan State University

School of Community Health and Policy

Initially founded in 1890, Morgan State University is a comprehensive public historically black research institution educating more than 7,700 diverse learners on its 143-acre urban campus in the bustling seaport city of Baltimore. Ranked fourth in the nation for the number of doctorates awarded to African Americans, MSU is currently named the 15th top historically black college and university in America by the U.S. News and World Report. The School of Community Health and Policy is provides rigorous training to students of diverse backgrounds who wish to focus their career on solving urban health issues, including addiction, violence, obesity, infant mortality, and HIV/AIDS.

Master of Public Health (MPH)

As a generalist program, the Master of Public Health (MPH) at Morgan State is devised to transform graduate students into competent public health practitioners with the knowledge and skills necessary to positively contribute to an array of health disciplines. Founded with a strong emphasis on solving urban public health problems, the program trains advocates, researchers, and policy developers for improving well-being in ethnically diverse communities. In the 48-credit curriculum, students take courses in statistics, behavioral health, health disparities, epidemiology, health services planning, environmental health, research methods, and community needs. MPH students are also required to complete a summer internship between their two years of full-time study to apply learned skills in the public health field.

Master of Public Health (MPH)

Following an intensive CEPH-accredited curriculum of 42 credits, the Master of Public Health (MPH) program at UMB is structured to provide a strong research environment in which students have the opportunity to utilize outstanding university resources to positively impact the well-being of populations worldwide. Depending on future career goals, students can select a concentration in Epidemiology, Community and Population Health, or Global Health. As a rather selective professional degree program, it's required that all students have an accredited bachelor's degree and prior work or volunteer experience in the public health field. If desired, it's possible for UMB students to combine their public health education with a dual DDS, JD, MSN, PharmD, or MSW degree for interdisciplinary scholarship.
